By Ellis County Sports Sports

Over half-a-million votes were cast in the week 9 Ellis County Sports Sports Player of the Week poll. One familiar name rose above the field of four student-athletes, too.

Life Waxahachie senior running back SirMichael Veasley captured a record-setting 231,115 of the 550,028 votes cast (42.02%) to win his second Ellis County Sports Sports PoW award this season.

Veasley previously received the recognition following his 194-yard, four-touchdown performance against Farmersville in week five.

He bested even that rushing total four weeks later.

Veasley rushed 23 times for 309 yards and a school-record six touchdowns in the Life Waxahachie Mustangs 37-28 district victory Friday, Sept. 1 at home against Mabank.

At the time of his nomination, Veasley had 1,072 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns on 90 carries (11.9YPC, 134.0YPG) through eight games.

Veasley will be presented with a commemorative Ellis County Sports Sports Player of the Week certificate at a date to be announced. He was also a special guest on the first episode of The Locker Room, a weekly sports talk radio show that airs live from 6-7 p.m. on Monday nights on Ellis County Sports 1390AM/99.1FM

Midlothian junior fullback Ethan Hill received 171,086 votes (31.10%) after he led the Panthers to a 32-30 District 5-5A win against Burleson. He rushed 28 times for 151 yards and two touchdowns during the victory.

Ferris tight end Matthew Nunez (143,950 votes, 26.17%) and the Red Oak defense (3,877 votes, 0.70%) also received votes during the week 9 Ellis County Sports Sports Player of the Week poll.
