Though not officially official, the Red Oak Lady Hawks will look unofficially secure a 5A soccer playoff berth on Tuesday.
The Lady Hawks will host the visiting fifth-place Ennis Lady Lions at 5:30 p.m. at Billy Goodloe Stadium. With a win, Red Oak would essentially seal its position in the fourth spot of District 14-5A.
The Lady Hawks fell to 9-8-1 overall and 2-4-1 in district action.
Midlothian sits atop the district standings with a 7-0 conference mark and 10-3-3 overall, while (10-2-5, 6-0-2) Joshua and (11-4-3, 5-1-1) Cleburne also remain in the postseason picture.
Following a Red Oak win against Ennis on Feb. 5, Red Oak head girls’ soccer coach Adam Prachyl said his team needed to focus on connecting touch passes on the offensive end.
“We have a very young program and are 95-percent freshmen and sophomores throughout the whole program,” Prachyl said. “We have just three juniors on varsity this year, so I am looking forward to working hard. We just have to continue working to developing our touches and connecting passes and communication to get better.”
Prachyl also told KBEC Sports that the Lady Hawks needed to focus on defensive pressure.
“And that just comes with the mentality,” he added. “With the growth of these young ladies’ mentalities, they just have to know that — when they are facing a better team — they cannot quit. That is our main issue right now — we just have to keep playing hard.”
Ennis currently sits in fifth place with a 1-4 district mark and 3-9-1 record overall. Waco University and Corsicana both remain winless in district play.
Red Oak closes the regular season against Corsicana (March 8), Waco University (March 9, 15) and Cleburne (March 11).
Red Oak and Ennis will conclude their regular-season series at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in Red Oak. The Lady Hawks won the previous match-up, 8-nil.
Sophomore Georgia Santos netted a hat trick and added two assists, while Amiya McCauley (2 goals), Sarah Zamora, Megan Fellows and Brenna Douthit all added goals in that first win. McCauley (2 assists), Salas, Zamora and Angelina Huerta contributed assists.
