There were eight first-half touchdowns scored by the Red Oak Hawks against Dallas Adamson on Friday.
That’s it. That’s the recap. Or, at least, it could be.
The Hawk offense amassed 511 total yards during the 70-0 district road victory, while the defensive unit tamed the Leopards to 48 total yards. Forty-six of those Adamson yards came on 30 carries (1.5 YPC).
Red Oak, which entered the week ranked No. 8 in the latest Dave Campbell’s Texas Football 5A Division II poll, improved to 6-1 on the season and 4-0 in District 6-5A. The Hawks now need two wins against Dallas Conrad, Spruce and/or Seagoville to notch the program’s first outright district title in 37 years.
Red Oak also needs just one victory over its final three games to solidify a playoff spot for the second consecutive season.
Leopard quarterbacks Michael Puentes (3-for-9) and Jaylen Price (0-for-1) combined for 2 passing yards to Adamson receivers. Puentes, though, did complete a pass to Red Oak cornerback Kevaris hall for a 56-yard touchdown with 38 seconds to play in the first quarter.
The interception return capped a first quarter that saw Red Oak running back CJ Palmer score twice from 6 and 36 yards and Coby Cavil catch a 1-yard touchdown pass from Joshua Ervin.
Ervin, a junior signal-caller, completed 6-of-his-9 passes for 180 yards and three touchdowns. He tossed one to each of Tristan Edwards (1-85), Cavill (5-77) and Raymond Gay II (3-69).
Palmer led the Red Oak rushing attack with seven carries for 134 yards and two touchdowns. Zach Sanders (3-75) scored a touchdown on all three of his carries, while Keyshawn Merritt added four carries for 42 yards and one touchdown.
The Leopard offense crossed midfield just twice on the night.
Red Oak will host (1-6, 1-3) Dallas Conrad at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Billy Goodloe Stadium.
