Who will be the week 9 Ellis County Sports Sports Player of the Week?

• SirMichael Veasley (Life Waxahachie) rushed 23 times for 309 yards and a school-record 6 touchdowns in the Life Waxahachie Mustangs 37-28 district victory Friday at home against Mabank. The win improved Life Waxahachie to 6-2 on the season and 2-1 in District 9-4A play. Veasley was previously selected as the Ellis County Sports Sports Player of the Week following his four-touchdown week 5 performance against Farmersville. Veasley has 1,072 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns on 90 carries (11.9YPC, 134.0YPG) through eight games this season. Life Waxahachie faces Midlothian Heritage at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Midlothian ISD Multipurpose Stadium.
• Matthew Nunez (Ferris) scored four total touchdowns Friday against Venus to keep the playoff dreams alive for the Ferris Yellowjackets. The senior rushed 15 times for 147 yards and three touchdowns, while also catching one 29-yard pass for a touchdown. He now has 15 total touchdowns (7 rushing, 8 receiving) on the season. The victory improved Ferris to 2-7 on the season and 1-2 in District 4-4A. It also provides the Yellowjackets a one-game cushion on fifth-place Venus for the final district playoff spot. Ferris wraps up its regular season at 7:30 p.m Friday at home against (3-5, 1-1) Hillsboro.
• Ethan Hill (Midlothian) led the Panthers flexbone offense to a crucial 32-30 District 5-5A win Friday against Burleson. Hill, a junior fullback, rushed 28 times for 151 yards and two touchdowns. His first touchdown put the Panthers on the board early in the first quarter. He then scored the eventual game-winner from 2 yards out with 10:27 to play in the fourth quarter. A heads-up play by Riley Angel on a botched extra-point snap led to a completion to JT Cavendar to put the Panthers on top, 32-17. Midlothian evenutally held on to the 6-5A win and improved to 6-2 on the season and 4-2 in district play. The Panthers are currently in third place in the district standings.
• Though not yet completely confirmed, the Red Oak defense likely set a new school record for yards allowed — or taken away, rather — on Friday against the Dallas Conrad Chargers. For starters, the shout victory, 84-0, was the third in the past four outings for the Hawk defense. It also improved Red Oak's points-for and points-against line this season to 479-153. But what was even more astounding about the District 6-5A Division II victory is that the Hawk defense limited the Charger offense to negative-80 total yards. Despite three passing completions, Conrad finished with negative-1 yard through the air. And, even though one wide receiver had one catch for 2 yards, he also rushed four times for negative-7 yards for a net of negative-five yards. Conrad ball carriers were limited to 26 carries for negative-79 yards on the night. This is the second consecutive week for the Hawk defense to be nominated for the Ellis County Sports Sports Player of the Week. Red Oak jumped one spot to No 7 in this week's Dave Campbell's Football 5A Division II poll and is currently 7-1 on the season and 5-0 in 6-5A play.
