Damyan Woodward (Milford) returned to full health to find the end zone nine times Friday in an 80-62 rout of Coolidge. The senior quarterback rushed a game-high 25 times for 261 yards and six touchdowns. He also completed 9-of-his-15 passes for 182 yards and three touchdowns. The 443 total yards amassed by Woodward accounted for 74.2% of the Milford offense. Woodward even recorded seven total tackles for the Bulldog defense. The victory improved No. 8 Milford to 7-2 on the season and 2-0 in District 11-1A. The Bulldogs face No. 10 (9-0, 2-0) Avalon at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Avalon.
Led by the Indian defense, Waxahachie pulled off an almost unthinkable Friday night at home against playoff-bound Mansfield Summit. That defensive unit is up for player of the week honors after holding Summit to 196 total yards, 10 first downs and just six points in the Indians 10-6 victory. The unit also recorded eight tackles-for-loss and eight quarterback pressures, which greatly aided the two Summit interceptions. The win was the first-ever for Waxahachie in District 7-6A and first against a 6A opponent since moving up from Class 5A. It marked just the sixth time for the Indian defense to allow six points or fewer over the past decade. Five of those instances came under the direction of longtime head coach David Ream over the 2009-2012 seasons. The last instance occured in 2015, a 48-0 rout of Red Oak with Jon Kitna as the head coach.
Jay Wilkerson (Midlothian Heritage) was the true difference maker for the Jaguar offense during a game dominated by defense on Friday against Life Waxahachie. Wilkerson caught seven passes for 116 yards and two touchdowns during the 24-7 Heritage victory, which locked the Jaguars into the second seed in District 8-4A. Wilkerson now has a team-best 45 receptions for 905 yards and 12 touchdowns on the season. He is averaging 100.6 yards per game and 20.1 yards per catch. Friday marked his fifth multi-touchdown game of the season.
Collin Drake (Ennis) led the Ennis Lions to a district-championship-clinching victory Friday against Corsicana in the annual Battle of Chambers Creek. The senior quarterback accounted for 71.5% of the Lions offense in the 30-21 win that clinched the District 8-5A Division II title for Sam Harrell and company. Drake completed 8-of-his-13 passes for 142 yards and one touchdown, while also adding 127 rushing yards and two touchdowns on a game-high 21 carries.
