Though it took 10 matches, the Waxahachie Lady Indian soccer team dropped its first match of the 2019-20 season on Friday — and just barely.

Waxahachie capitalized twice Friday against (7-1, 2-0) Mansfield High — which entered Stuart B. Lumpkins Stadium as the fifth-ranked team in TASCO 6A Region I rankings — but couldn’t find the back of the net a third time in the 3-2 loss.

Angel Garfias and Peyton Renfro scored goals on assists by Bella Curiel and Garfias, respectively.  According to MaxPreps, Mansfield had allowed just one goal this season prior to Friday.

The loss was the first of the season for the Lady Indians, who are now 8-1-1 on the year and 1-1 in District 7-6A. Waxahachie opened district play with a 3-2 victory on the road against 6A Region I No. 8 Mansfield Lake Ridge on Tuesday.

Waxahachie has now outscored its opposition 43-10 through its first 10 matches this season.

Garfias and Renfro lead the team with eight goals scored, while Garfias has supplied a team-best 11 assists for a team-high 27 points. Renfro has four assists, trailing only Curiel (7 assists, 6 goals).

Sam Hernandez, Angelica Gutierrez and Brooke Smith have each found the back of the net four times this season for the Lady Indians.
