An old adage reminds us that every vote counts, which was precisely what played out in the KBEC Sports Player of the Week poll following the bi-district round of the football playoffs.

Four votes separated Red Oak running back CJ Palmer and Palmer running back Dylan Tyree during a voting period that saw 82,912 total votes cast.

In the end, it was Palmer who skated by with 37,727 (45.50%) votes to win his first KBEC Sports Player of the Week Award after his sixth nomination.

The senior running back led the Red Oak offense to a 55-24 victory Friday, Nov. 15 against Everman in the 5A Division II bi-district championship at Billy Goodloe Stadium. Palmer led the Red Oak offense with 19 carries for 204 yards and three touchdowns.

He scored two of his three touchdowns in the first quarter from 8 yards (7:09) and 1-yard (2:03) out for a 14-0 Red Oak lead. Palmer eventually tacked on a third first-half rushing touchdown for a 31-7 Red Oak lead.

Palmer will be presented with a commemorative KBEC Sports Player of the Week certificate at a date to be announced. He will also a special guest on The Press Box, a weekly sports talk radio show that airs live from 6-7 p.m. on Monday nights on KBEC 1390AM/99.1FM.

Tyree, who was selected as the Player of the Week following week 11, received 37,723 (45.50%) of the total votes to fall four votes short of Palmer’s total.

Midlothian Heritage running back Cullen Stone (7,233 votes, 8.72%) and Avalon quarterback Miguel Padron (0.28%, 229 votes) also received votes in the bi-district round of the KBEC Sports Player of the Week poll.
