Write it in stone: The Life Waxahachie Mustangs will be in the postseason.
Life Waxahachie will look to improve upon an up-and-down 2018 season when the Mustangs take the field Friday. The group will also look to return to the postseason.
The Mustangs return key players were it matters most on the offensive side and will be led once again by do-it-all athlete Gage Mayfield.
Mayfield accounted for 1,134 yards and 11 touchdowns on 134 carries in 2018, while also adding 582 yards with nine touchdowns to five interceptions on 39-of-87 passing.
Sir Michael Veasley also returns following a season where he recorded 788 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on 74 carries. Tony Evans returns for the Mustangs out wide after he caught 12 passes for 178 yards and two scores this past season.
Other key returners include Kitt Wilder (OG), Trenten James (LB, 59 tackles) and Trevon Brantley (DL).
Life Waxahachie head football coach Heath Blalock said he is “extremely excited” about the opportunities that lay ahead for the Mustangs in 2019.
“Our camp has gone great, and we are motivated to compete. Our kids are competing hard for positions on a daily basis and learning from each other as we continue to grow our brotherhood,” Blalock told KBEC Sports. “It is an honor to coach these young men and we are hopeful that we will be an exciting team to watch this year. Coach Stanley and coach McKee have done a tremendous job preparing us on both sides of the ball. Our players are hungry for more success, and they have put the work in that it takes to achieve it.”
