Following a flurry of votes just before the deadline, Midlothian defensive back Riley Angel was selected by Ellis County football fans as the week three Ellis County Sports Sports Player of the Week.

Angel began Thursday a mere four percentage points behind Palmer quarterback Adrian Cisneros. A late Twitter push by both school districts and fanbases ultimately led to 94,857 votes being cast in the poll over two and a half days of voting

Over 15,000 of the total votes came during the final 30 minutes of the voting period.

(Note: Due to an unforeseen website error, votes were tallied and received through 12:39 p.m. Thursday. We do not have any way to confirm totals before the poll was published and final and do apologize for any and all confusion. This issue will be corrected before next week’s poll is posted.)

Angel ultimately received 48,573 of those votes for 51.1% of the total after he led the Midlothian Panthers to home win Friday night against Joshua in their District 5-5A opener.

Angel stole the show in the first half of the 65-7 victory at Midlothian ISD Multipurpose Stadium, catching a 47-yard touchdown pass, completing a two-point conversion pass, intercepting three Owl passes and breaking up three more.

The junior defensive back also recorded one tackle-for-loss and did not allow a completion on any of the seven passes in his direction, while also leading all Midlothian receivers with two catches for 83 yards.

Angel will be presented with a commemorative Ellis County Sports Sports Player of the Week certificate at a date to be announced.

As for Cisneros, he collected an impressive 44,957 votes (47.3%).

Cisneros led the Bulldogs to a wild second-half come-from-behind homecoming win against Millsap, 33-30. He finished with 242 passing yards and three touchdowns and two interceptions on 16-of-26 (62%) through the air. He also rushed 10 times for 22 yards and two scores.

Life Waxahachie defense end Trenten James (821 votes, 0.9%) and Milford quarterback Ricky Pendleton (806 votes, 0.9%) also received votes in the week three poll.
